Phishing for SEX! WOOT!

For the past few months, I've been seeking a new place in inner-SE Portland. My reasons have been simple; despite the novelty of having a workshop in my condo, I miss having a real garage. I look forward to soon having the ability to use my lathe and CNC, without spending equal time cleaning up afterwards, and to complete fiberglass layups without ~1.5hr drives across town.<br />

Though, what does this all have to do with sex? I responded to a housing listing on Criagslist. Only to see a reply a few hours later, with the following text:

WTF?!? Responding to housing listings to solicit sex...umm, no!

So, a few hours later, I received the following:

Dear Gregg,

Thank you for your interest in my condo for rent. I am booking appointments to view the condo and would be interested in having you take a look at the property, if you can suggest a date and time that works well for you this would be helpful.

Due to my previous renting experience I am requiring that you verify you have an acceptable credit score and would like to know more about your employment situation to avoid dealing with unqualified renters.

I would recommend getting a FREE credit report from http://www.creditscoring*****.com which takes less than 5 minutes and has no cost to you. This is required before I will consider you as a serious applicant. This will also be useful for any other properties you are looking at and is a standard in pre-rent screening procedures.

I am asking that you complete the report and provide me with the numerical score, please DO NOT send the report as it contains sensitive information, you can print it for your records and bring it with you to the viewing.

I look forward to hearing from you.

This was obviously a very creative phishing attempt; rental property seekers are very likely eager to please a prospective landlord, so why not just visit the site and pass-on that "free" credit score info? Only catch; you'll never see your real score there, and you'll instead become just another phishing victim.

Want a real, free, credit report. Be an informed consumer, and check out the US Federal Trade Commission's site: http://www.ftc.gov/freereports
